Categories: Higher Education

Renowned as one of Canada's top three universities, the University of British Columbia operates two major campuses in Vancouver and Okanagan. Its Vancouver campus is notably international, with roughly one in five students coming from abroad.

The university is distinguished by significant scientific contributions, including a nuclear physics laboratory, a 24-hectare organic farm for research, and studies calculating the mass of the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies. Research here has also established links between fish size and climate change.

Students are drawn to its extensive amenities, which feature an on-campus botanical garden with 8,000 plant species, a Japanese garden, and the acoustically adaptive Chan Shun Concert Hall. Over 200 student clubs and access to a ski resort enrich campus life.

Notable facts include its frequent use as a film location, a library housing a collection dedicated to composer Igor Stravinsky, and a community that has produced seven Nobel laureates, 64 Olympic medalists, and two Canadian prime ministers.
