Founded in 1896, Westbourne School is a co-educational British boarding school offering education from early childhood through to senior secondary level. Its structure includes Nursery and Preparatory education for children aged 2–11, as well as High School (11–16) and Senior School (16–19). The school is located in Penarth, a safe and affluent seaside suburb of Cardiff that has been named among the UK’s top ten places to live by The Sunday Times. The area provides convenient access to Cardiff and Bristol airports, both offering regular European connections.
Westbourne attracts a diverse international community while maintaining a strong British educational environment. International students make up around 15–20% of the student body, with pupils representing countries across Europe and Asia. No single nationality dominates, allowing students to fully integrate and adapt to the British academic system. Graduates continue their education at UK universities or sixth form colleges.
The school places strong emphasis on pastoral care and individual attention. Students may live either in the school guesthouse, available from age 13, or with carefully selected host families. Accommodation offers furnished shared or single rooms, full-board meals three times a day, and options for special dietary requirements.
Sport and creative activities are central to school life. Students participate in sailing, swimming, football, tennis and other sports, as well as music, drama and clubs. Academic outcomes are among the strongest in the UK: Westbourne has topped league tables for five consecutive years, achieved high IB and GCSE results, and sends around 90% of graduates to Russell Group universities. Scholarships are available for students demonstrating exceptional academic, creative or sporting achievement.
